WATER ROLE IN WEIGHT LOSS

One can survive for several weeks without food but only about five days without water! Up to three quarters of our body weight is water. For example, the brain is 75 to 85 percent water, and the muscles are 70 percent water. Among other things, water helps us to digest and absorb food, carrying nutrients to the cells. It removes toxins and other waste, lubricates joints and the colon, and regulates body temperature. But did you know that drinking enough water is also a factor in weight loss? DRINKING WATER TO LOSE WEIGHT First of all, water has no calories, is fat free and cholesterol-free, and is low in sodium. Second, it is an appetite suppressant. Third, water helps the body to metabolize stored fat. How? Well, when the kidneys do not have enough water, they cannot function properly. The liver steps in as a backup, but doing so hinders its ability to metabolize fat effectively.https://mysticrealityfacts.blogspot.com.ng/2017/09/nutritional-values-of-pizza.html The fat thus remains st

HOW TO HANDLE DISEASES

Every day your body wages war against enemies that are silent and unseen but potentially deadly. Foreign invaders, such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites, threaten your health. Most microbes do not cause disease. This article focuses on microorganisms and other infective agents that threaten your health. You are not likely to be aware of those battles because your immune system repels or destroys most of the invaders before the onset of symptoms. Sometimes, however, the harmful germs gain the upper hand. If so, you may need to bolster your defenses with medicine and other treatments. For thousands of years, people knew virtually nothing about the dangers of microscopic or other small harmful organisms. However, when 19th-century scientists confirmed the link between germs and disease, we became better equipped to defend ourselves. Medical researchers have since eliminated or greatly reduced the threat of some infectious diseases, including smallpox and polio. Recently, however, ot

OUR BODY CHAINS

OUR BODY: A COLLECTION OF MICROSCOPIC CHAINS Have you ever thought of your body as a collection of microscopic chains? Perhaps not. But in reality, “at the level of its smallest relevant components,” says the book The Way Life Works, life employs “THE CHAIN AS ITS ORGANIZING PRINCIPLE.” For that reason, just a small defect in some of these chains can have a MAJOR impact on our health. What are these chains? How do they function? And how do they relate to our health and well-being? Basically, they are chainlike molecules that fall into TWO main categories. The molecules we will consider in this article are the PROTEINS. The others are the molecules that STORE and TRANSMIT genetic information –DNA and RNA. Of course, the two groups are INTIMATELY related. In fact, one key function of DNA and RNA is to produce life’s vast array of PROTEINS. HOW ARE PROTEINS MADE? 1. Inside a cell’s nucleus, DNA contains instructions for eac

GAMBLING PROBLEMS

“Around 290,000 Australians are problem gamblers and account for over $3 billion in losses annually. This is disastrous not only for these problem gamblers, but also for the estimated 1.5 million people they directly affect as a result of bankruptcy, divorce, suicide and lost time at work.”-J. Howard, prime minister of Australia, 1999. John, mentioned in the preceding article, became a problem gambler. He moved to Australia, where he got married to Linda, also a gambler. John’s addiction grew worse. He says: “I progressed from buying lottery tickets to betting on racehorses and gambling at casinos. I ended up gambling nearly every day. I sometimes gambled away my whole paycheck and had nothing left with which to pay the mortgage or feed the family. Even when I won a lot of money, I continued to gamble. It was the thrill of winning that hooked me.” Individuals like John are not uncommon. Whole societies seem to have caught gambling fever. The magazine USA Today said that between 197

CHILD OBESITY

The term “childhood obesity” refers to a medical condition that affects children and adolescents. Experts say that young people who are overweight have a 70 percent chance of being overweight as adults. Childhood obesity may be related to a number of factors, including a sedentary lifestyle, advertising campaigns directed at young people, and the availability and affordability of healthy foods. The U.S Centers for Disease Control says: “Childhood obesity is the result of eating too many calories and not getting enough physical activity.” Children, adolescents, and adults would do well to take a close look at their eating habits. Without going to extremes, a few simple measures can make a difference. Consider, for example, a young man named Kris, who found that adjusting his eating habits brought enormous benefits to his health and welling-being. “At one time I was a junk-food junkie,” Kris admits. I spoke with Kris to find out how he changed. Question [1] WHEN DID YOUR PROBLEM WITH FOO

LONELINESS

WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT LONELINESS 1. Keep in mind that your situation can be changed, that it is not a permanent situation but a common experience shared by others. 2. Do not be unreasonably demanding of yourself. 3. Feel content about yourself in general. 4. Develop good habits in eating and exercise, and get adequate sleep. 5. Use the time you spend alone doing creative things and learning new skills. 6. Be careful not to judge people you meet on the basis of your past experiences. 7. Value your friends and their unique qualities. Work toward developing a good circle of friends. Ask for ideas from older, experienced ones. 8. Do something for others –give them a smile, express a kind word, share a thought from the books you have read. Feeling needed by others is an antidote to loneliness. 9. Avoid fantasizing about movie or TV stars or internet or literature characters, imagining a relationship with them. 10. If y

DRUNK CHILDREN

In one hospital doctors and nurses reported treating as many as 100 intoxicated children a week during the summer vacation. "More than 70 percent of staff believed that children admitted to hospital for alcohol abuse were getting younger," says the paper. Also, a recent government report shows that alcohol-related deaths in Britain have tripled in 20 years. While heavy drinking may be considered a game to some, it is a very dangerous game! Excessive amount of alcohol deprive the brain of oxygen; vital bodily functions can begin to shut down. Symptoms may include vomiting, unconsciousness, and slow or irregular breathing. In some cases death can result. About a month after graduating from high school, 17-year-old Ese went to an “all-you-can-drink” party. Ese consumed 18 drinks before passing out. Her older sister then came and took Ese home. The next morning, Ese’s mother found her dead. Overdrinking may rarely cause death directly, but it still poses a health threat. “Al

THE DANGERS OF STERIODS

“I do think about it [the consequences of taking steroids]…But like, it’s what I want now.”-John, a weight lifter. Are you happy with your appearance? Would you like to have the muscular body of a star athlete or the lean figure of a top model? Do you take sports seriously and want to improve your strength and speed? https://mysticrealityfacts.blogspot.com.ng/2017/09/do-i-have-eating-disorder.html If you answered yes to any of the above, then you may be tempted to take some of the pills or portions that your peers promise will help you to achieve your goals more quickly. The journal American Academy of Family Physicians states: “Approximately 1 million adolescents [in the United States] between the ages of 12 and 17 years have taken potentially dangerous performance-enhancing supplements and drugs.” The most popular performance-boosting drugs are known as ANABOLIC STEROIDS. What are they? Why do people take them? And how can you resist their appeal? GIVING NATURE A BOOST “Anabolic ster

THE WONDERS OF DEJA VU

DÉJÀ VU gives us the feeling we have experienced an event before, even though this may seem to be an impossibility. Thus, the feeling of familiarity accompanying déjà vu is often unexpected and inexplicable, leading many people to wonder if their déjà vu experiences are psychic, physiological, or both. A number of mechanisms have been advanced to account for the déjà vu experience. Because psychic experiences of many kinds have been associated with déjà vu, it has often been suggested that déjà vu itself is a psychic experience. In this regard, déjà vu has been reported to be the result of reincarnation memories, subconscious memories of dream projections or out-of-body –experiences, subconscious memories of precognitive dreams, and clairvoyance. A higher frequency of déjà vu experiences have been reported for those who meditate frequently. Another proposed mechanism for déjà vu is that of biochemically encoded ancestral memories. This concept states that memories build

HARD DRUGS VERSUS THE WORLD

A newborn baby shrieks in a hospital in Madrid, Spain. A nurse frantically tries to pacify him but to no avail. The baby is suffering the agony of heroin withdrawal. Worse still, he is HIV positive. His mother was hooked on heroin. A Los Angeles mother inadvertently drives her car onto a street controlled by a gang of drug dealer. She is greeted by a barrage of bullets, which kill her infant daughter. Thousands of kilometers away, in Afghanistan, a peasant cultivates a field of poppies. It has been a good year; production is up 25 percent. Opium poppies pay well, and the peasant’s family is struggling to survive. But these pretty poppies will be converted into heroin, and heroin destroys lives. A shy teenage girl in Sydney, Australia, goes to a discotheque every Saturday night. She used to find it hard to mix with the crowd, but recently a pill called ECSTASY has given her new confidence. The pills she takes were smuggled into Australia from the Netherlands, although local laborator

CHILD'S HEALTH AND DOGS

CHILD HEALTH: DOG, EPILEPSY AND HEART DISEASE . Some dogs that have been household pets for more than a year can foresee epileptic attacks in the children with whom they live. Researchers reached this conclusion after carrying out a study of 45 families. Several parents with epileptic children noticed that prior to an attack; their dog began to behave in a “peculiar way.” It would force the young one to sit down or would lean against the child’s side so that if he fell, the dog would break his fall. Childhood experiences of physical or psychological hardship increase the child’s risk of suffering from heart disease later on in life. This conclusion was reached by researchers in Atlanta, Georgia, and San Diego, California, U.S.A., who examined the medical records of 17,337 adults. Science News explains that the participants were assessed according to “which of them, as children, had witnessed domestic violence, experienced mental or physical abuse

SLEEPING HABITS

People in the Asia burn the midnight oil, sleeping later than most Americans and Europeans and waking up earlier, a global survey on sleep habits has found that more than 14,000 people in 28 countries were asked when they get up. In Portugal, 3 out of 4 people go to bed after midnight. Asians are the earliest out of bed, led by Indonesia, where 91 percent said they are out of bed by 7am. The Japanese sleep the least. Over 40 percent get six hours of sleep or less each night. At the other end of the list are the Australians. Not only do they have the highest number of those who go to bed before 10:00 p.m. but almost a third of the respondents there said that, on average, they get more than nine hours of sleep each night. It may be said that science is not attempting to discover the meaning or purpose of life, and this is true. However, science today has such a strong hold over the minds of many that, unless science takes a serious interest in this subject,

FAST FOOD FOR INSECTS

FAST FOOD FOR INSECTS Insect readily feast on quick high calorie food. A convenient source is a FLOWER HEAD. Like fast food chains, flowers advertise their presence with bright colors. Find the flowers attractive, insects alight on the flowers, where they can munch on the pollen or sip nectar. Being particularly sluggish after a cool night, these cold- blooded creations need the sun’s energy to get going. Many flowers offer the insects a complete package nutritious food and a place to bask in the sun. Let’s take a look at a familiar example. Scientists have discovered that the temperature on the surface of some flowers is several degrees warmer than the surroundings. THE OXEYE DAISY is a common flower that grows throughout much of Europe and N. America. It may not seem special, but if you take the time to inspect it, you will see a lot of activity. This oxeye daisy offers an ideal place for insects to start the day. The white petals reflect the sun’s warmth, and the yello
